Located in Sleepy Hollow, Rockefeller State Preserve is a haven for nature lovers. The expansive preserve boasts over 1,400 acres of woodlands, meadows, and scenic carriage roads, providing the perfect backdrop for a leisurely fall hike with the family. The diverse tree species here offer a kaleidoscope of colors, creating a magical experience for leaf peeping. The park is a New York State Park and charges a nominal fee of $6 for vehicle entry. Alternatively, you can purchase an Empire Pass for $80-$750 for all-season enjoyment of New York State Parks, Beaches, Trails, and Preserves.

Nestled along the Bronx River running from Bronxville to Valhalla, the Bronx River Parkway Reservation offers a picturesque setting for enjoying the fall foliage. Take a stroll along the paved riverside paths or pack a picnic and relax amidst the vibrant hues of the surrounding trees. Kids will love spotting different types of leaves and learning about the seasonal changes in nature. This historic park was the first official Westchester County Park, and one of the first linear parks in the country. Whether you're taking a short walk or a bike ride down the 11.2 mile path, the views are sure to stun!

For a breathtaking view of the fall colors, head to Croton Gorge Park in Cortlandt. Overlooking the Old Croton Dam, the park features a stunning waterfall and overlook where you can admire the foliage spreading across the landscape. Capture unforgettable family moments against the backdrop of cascading waters and the rich tapestry of autumn leaves. The park charges for parking during peak season in the Summer, but parking is free after Labor Day.

If you and your family enjoy cycling, the North County Trailway offers a unique way to experience fall in Westchester County. Running from Mount Pleasant to Somers, This scenic trail winds 22.1 miles through wooded areas, providing a front-row seat to the changing colors of the season. Pack up your bikes, grab some snacks, and set off on a memorable leaf-viewing adventure! For an extended experience, the trail connects to the South County Trailway in the south, and the Putnam Trailway in the North. With various access points up and down the county, this may be one of the most easily accessible areas to see the fall leaves.

For a more tranquil leaf-viewing experience, visit Untermeyer Gardens in Yonkers. This historic public park features terraced gardens, sculptures, and serene pathways lined with trees that burst into vibrant hues during the fall months. Wander through the gardens with your kids and take in the beauty of nature's autumnal transformation. With a walled garden, terrace, vegetable garden, rhododendron walk, views of the Hudson River, and other attractions, Untermeyer Gardens has so much more than just fall foliage, making it a visual treat your whole family will love.

Irvington Woods, situated along the Hudson River, offers a peaceful retreat for families seeking to connect with nature. At 400 acres, Irvington Woods is one of the largest wooded areas in the county, making it an ideal spot for some leaf watching.
