Elina isn't your average entrepreneur. This local Westchester-based pediatric physical therapist wears multiple hats, running a successful practice focused on pediatric development and fostering a community for female business owners. We enjoyed chatting with Elina about her Physical Therapy work and her journey with Speed Networking.

More Than Just Therapy

Elina's journey began over a decade ago when she embarked on a career in pediatric physical therapy. However, the recent pandemic presented a unique challenge. With social distancing measures in place, Elina noticed a growing concern within the pediatric community – a potential delay in children's development due to the lack of social interaction and access to developmental classes.

Driven to bridge this gap and empower moms, Elina launched her now-thriving playgroups in 2020. These outdoor sessions offered a safe space for moms and their babies to connect, engage in playful activities to promote motor skills and sensory exploration and build a much-needed sense of community.

The playgroups have been an enormous success, and Elina has witnessed firsthand their positive impact on families.  "I have several families that started with me in playgroup when their child was a baby," Elina explains. "We noticed a torticollis or a delay in milestones, and they started PT with me early on. By 12 months, the children were caught up with their motor milestones and doing great." The parents observed many early signs through the playgroups, and Elina's expertise helped them act swiftly. By enrolling their child in private physical therapy sessions, they addressed the issues early, ensuring the child reached their motor milestones.

Building a Community Beyond the Playgroup

Elina's entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond physical therapy. Recognizing the need for a supportive network for female entrepreneurs, she partnered with Kymberly Kaufman, a small business lawyer, to create their "Speed Networking" events.

These events provide a platform for female entrepreneurs to connect, share ideas, and support each other's businesses.  Elina explains, "We match each entrepreneur with 4 other women for 1:1 conversations based on a questionnaire. It's a fantastic place for small businesses to get their name out there and build a community of support."

Facing Challenges and Finding Success

Like many small business owners, Elina has faced her share of challenges. Starting a business from scratch in a new location during COVID-19 required her to build new connections and establish herself in a competitive market.

However, Elina's dedication and passion have fueled her success.  She embraces the flexibility and control of being her boss while creating a warm and welcoming environment for her clients.  "I get to treat how I feel is best," Elina says. "I get to create a homey environment for my families so that the children never feel like they are going to see the doctor, but that it feels like they are coming to my house to play."

Balancing the business aspects of her work with the educational component requires meticulous planning and dedication. Despite the challenges, the rewards are well worth it for Elina. Creating a comfortable environment for families and nurturing strong connections with each child brings her an unparalleled sense of fulfillment.
