Mount Pleasant, NY is home to a unique gem for baking enthusiasts of all ages: Cake Art Studio. Owner Dana Russo, a seasoned cake artist, has combined her passion for baking with a love for teaching, creating a business that's as educational as it is delightful. "I love what I do more and more every day," Dana shares, "which is something I’ve never experienced in my professional life."

Dana's journey to entrepreneurship began while managing a team of cake decorators. She discovered a knack for teaching, sharing her expertise in a way that resonated with her colleagues. "These women so truly appreciated the new skills they acquired and even called me their mentors," she recalls. "And that was my proudest moment and found that I wanted to continue teaching fellow decorators and even hobby bakers all the knowledge I had to offer in this field." This passion for sharing her craft is the driving force behind Cake Art Studio.
What sets Cake Art Studio apart? It's not just the diverse range of classes offered for all skill levels and ages, but also the unique atmosphere. At every class, Dana creates a retro/pinup 40’s/50s vibe that permeates every aspect of the experience. "From the music of that era playing in the background to the decor to the polka dotted ruffle trimmed aprons…every detail is an ode to that era," she explains. This commitment to creating a fun and immersive experience makes Cake Art Studio more than just a class – it's an event.
Like many small businesses, Cake Art Studio has faced its share of challenges. "Being a one woman show with very little startup capital, getting myself known to the community and advertising has been my greatest struggle," Dana admits. However, she's found creative ways to overcome these hurdles. Volunteering at the town community center's senior program proved to be a turning point, leading to paid classes through the parks and recreation department. "It’s been a great way to gain exposure and trust of my local community," she says.

Dana's dedication to her craft and her students shines through in her favorite customer success story. "I’d have to say it was how amazed I was by the cakes created by my kids classes," she beams. "Watching how proud they were to show their parents their edible works of art and the true amazement of the parents at what the kids were capable of making after just 6 hours of instruction over 3 weeks was a real indication that what I set out to do I was accomplishing!"
Beyond community center classes, Cake Art Studio also offers private events and parties. "Kids birthday, girls night out, bachelorette….there's so many great themes and packages I offer and I’d love to do more of them!" Dana enthuses. Whether you're looking to hone your baking skills, celebrate a special occasion, or simply enjoy a fun and unique experience, Cake Art Studio has something to offer. This Westchester gem is proving that baking can be both beautiful and a truly sweet success.
